We recently received a photo from a reader of a worm-like creature she found on her living room carpet. She said she found several of them, and thought they might be millipedes but wasn’t sure. She was hoping we could clarify for her.
The photo shows a small, dark brown, segmented creature with a ton of legs. Based on the photo, we can confirm that this is indeed a millipede.

In the great outdoors, millipedes are beneficial to the environment and don’t cause much concern. Inside a home, however, people can be anxious to say goodbye to these creatures. Getting rid of any moisture can deter millipedes, as well as simply placing ones you find outside! Unless you are dealing with a large number of these bugs, removal should not be very difficult.
To sum up, our reader found a creature and was curious if it was a millipede or a worm. We believe it was a millipede!
