We heard from a reader who found some brownish maggots in his bathroom. ‘Maggots’ is generally another term for larvae, most often the larva of some type of fly. He said they are a little larger than 1 inch, and from the photo we can see they have a rough texture and some appendages on one end. He is curious what kind of creature these maggots will become, and what he can do to get rid of them.

It is extremely difficult to determine what these maggots might become, but we believe they will eventually become some type of fly. Unfortunately, we don’t know which type of fly this will be.

However, getting rid of maggots is usually a similar process no matter what type they are. Maggots feed on decaying organic matter, and people often find them after forgetting to take out the trash or leaving out rotting food. Since our reader found maggots in his bathroom, he should look for a food source in his bathroom. This could be in a shower or sink drain, or another substance building up in the cabinets or corners. He should thoroughly sanitize his bathroom, including cleaning the drains and pipes. If he continues to find maggots, there might be a dead rat or mouse stuck behind the walls that the maggots are eating. However, this is quite unlikely if he hasn’t noticed the smell that accompanies a dead animal.

To end, our reader discovered large brown maggots in his bathroom. We believe these are some type of fly maggot, and he can get rid of them by deeply cleaning his bathroom and eliminating food sources!
