Released in 2001, Worms World Party or “The Worm Game” is a video game that features a platoon of feisty worms, toting an arsenal of unique and bizarre weapons. Worms World Party, part of the second generation of worm games, uses a combination of wacky animation and colorful landscapes to create a wild war game that’s fun for all ages. Developed by Team17 Software, the worm game is a series of turn-based computer games. This means, the flow of the game is partitioned into precise and visible parts called turns or rounds.
Here’s how the worm game works. Each player in the game controls a small platoon of animated worms. The platoons battle other computer-controlled worms or player controlled worms across a reshapable landscape. Although the game is war-based, the animation is humorous. During the course of the game players take turns choosing their worms and whatever tools and weapons they prefer in order to kill the opponents worms. Once they kill all of the opponents’ worms, they win the game. The worms move about by walking, jumping, bungee jumping, and by using ninja ropes. The players have to think fast because each move is timed. The players can’t waste time thinking, if they do – they are out of the game!
So how do worm’s get killed or die? The worms die when:
·A worm’s health is reduced to zero
·A worm enters the water by falling off the island or through a hole
·A worm is thrown off of either side of the arena
The worm game has more than fifty weapons at the player’s disposal. Many of these weapons are either inside jokes or inspired by popular TV programs and movies. A good example is the Holy Hand Grenade, which was inspired by Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Just a few weapons include:
Holy Hand Grenade
Indian Nuclear Test
