A reader recently asked up about some cat food she opened that contained some questionable worms in it. The foil packets of “Meow Mix – Deep Sea Delight” she opened contained some reddish brown meaty textured cat food as well as long white worms (see picture). She continued that these foil packets had an expiration date of September 2009. The expiration date and the presence of the worms in the food led to her not feeding her cats this mix. Still, she wondered if perhaps the worms were actually supposed to be there.
Using the photo, the expiration date, and prior knowledge of what cat food looks like, we are confident that those worms were not supposed to be part of the cat food. It is good that our reader didn’t feed them to her cat!

In conclusion, a reader discovered some worms in expired cat food and was curious if it was normal. After examining the photo, we believe that the worms were not normal and that the expired food should be disposed of.
