Damages to House Could be Caused by Wood-boring Insects

“What is this that is doing this to my house?” is all Alicia writes in her submission regarding what we presume to be a wooden door frame, pictured below. Now, we have to start by saying that we are not quite sure what we are looking at, which makes it hard to know what to look for. Typically, when people send pictures of wooden structures, they are concerned about wood-eating/-boring insects, like wood-boring beetles or termites. But Alicia also includes two other photos, one of which is also pictured below, which show other types of matter that bear no resemblance to the first photo.

Reddish-brown Larvae Coming from Nail Holes in Wall Could be Wood-eating Insects

This reader has been finding “brown larvae coming out of a nail hole on the interior wall of his house in the mountains of Colorado.” The picture below depicts the creatures, which, according to our reader, are “about 1/4-inch long, reddish brown, and spiny.” So far, he has found a “total” of “about six in the area.” He does not pose a question, per say, but we assume he wants to know what these are. Unfortunately, the picture he sent is of really low resolution, so when we zoom in on the photo to get a closer look at the larvae, the photo becomes blurry and so we are unable to see the details of the creatures’ physical characteristics. This makes it much harder to provide an identification.

Cat Claw Found Amidst Infestation of Various Organisms in This Woman’s Home

“What the hell is this?” asks this reader about the two objects pictured below: one a white, sharp-looking thing, and the other a lump of brown material. “They’re all over my house. They’re eating the wood deck. They’re on clothes, on furniture and they seem to bore through anything. They’re on the walls and the ceiling. They leave fuzzy, white, linty substances like fabric, hair and wood.” Based on the photo our sent us, the white object looks like a claw, specifically a cat claw. We do not know if our reader actually owns a cat, but given the fact that she has found holes in her clothing, furniture, and elsewhere, it would make sense that a cat is tearing holes in these objects and leaving the lint and fluff all over the home.

Small White Organisms Found on Wooden Structures in Home are Woodworms

“We have been finding small white things (as well as other strange things) all around our house for at least a year now,” states this reader in her submission regarding the organisms displayed in the photographs below. She describes the situation as an “ongoing and life-consuming nightmare” and appreciates any advice we can give her about the creatures’ identity and how to get rid of them.

White Worm-like Creature That Eats Through Wood, Porcelain and Ceramic is a Mystery

“There appears to be a worm on the floor along with white dots that are eggs I guess,” states this reader, who thinks she may have found pinworms in her home. The worms in question appear to be white in color, with a flat body.

Parasites or Harmless Larvae? These Small White Worms Invade this Man’s Home

A man found small white worms in every piece of wood in his house and hopes that we can help identify what they are. The image sent in below is difficult to make sense of; there appears to be a smear of white in the center against the green background (which we assume is supposed to be the worm) as well as rings of white surrounding it on all sides.
