Inch-Long Tan Worms in Florida Apartment are Most Likely Millipedes

A reader recently sent in a query about finding live, big worms in her small, ground-floor apartment in Florida, as well as very small and thin worms that follow them inside. The smaller worms are apparently about an inch in length, “a drop thicker than a needle”, and tannish in color.

Little Critters with Lots of Legs Plaguing Family after it Rains are Probably Millipedes

One of our readers sent us a picture of a little critter that he has been finding in his home. He said that each day and night, he and his family see dozens of these things on the carpet or tiles of their home and even on the walls every now and then. He says that they are very slow moving and are about 1 to 1 ¼ inches in length. He did mention to us that there had been a lot of rain in their area for about the last 2 to 3 weeks. He said there seems to be more of these critters since the rain started. After looking at the picture, these creatures are probably millipedes.

Millipedes in Washington, DC Apartment

One of our readers who lives in Washington, D.C. found a small worm in her 10th floor apartment. She said that there is a small area outside that often collects water after storms and sometimes she has found bugs in this area. She found quite a few of these “worms” next to the window near her bed. She is not exactly sure how they got in. She does have a cat, so her first thought was that these worms could be infecting her cat. She also recently bought some sunflowers so she was thinking that worms could be on the flowers. Lastly, she did mention that she goes out horseback riding every day so they could have gotten in from her boots or clothing. She included a picture for us as well.
