“I’ve been finding lots of these whitish things everywhere lately,” states this reader in her query regarding the organisms pictured below. “Would you happen to know what they are? I am very curious!”

The organisms seem to vary in shape and color, coming in different shades of white and yellow. Only one of them has a consistent, bulbous shape (see picture below), but otherwise, the rest of the creatures all have irregular-shaped bodies. This tells us that these are probably not worms or larvae. One or two of the creatures almost seem to be hairy, or even be made from silk or webbing, which tells us that this one might be a chrysalis/cocoon, though we are not quite sure.

All in all, these organisms are so devoid of characteristics that it is nearly impossible to identify them. What our reader can do is take samples of these organisms to her local county extension office to get a second opinion from someone who can physically inspect the creatures. Likewise, she can also send more context to us if she wants us to have another go at identifying them.

Otherwise, we recommend that our reader move these organisms outside and that she uses caution when doing so. Since we do not know what these organisms are, we cannot account for potential allergic reactions, biting, stinging or possible infection. We do not wish to alarm our reader with this, but we would rather she be safe than sorry. Additionally, if she has any pets, then they could be dragging these in from outside. Likewise, she might want to monitor her pets’ health, in case these organisms are affecting them.

To conclude, we do not know what these organisms are, and we wish we could answer our reader’s question to a satisfactory degree. Unfortunately, we do not know absolutely everything about every organism (as much as we would like to), and it happens sometimes that we are unable to identify an organism. Nonetheless, we hope that our reader found something of interest and/or value in this article, and we wish her the very best!
