We recently received some disturbing photographs from one of our readers. She explained that these worm-like organisms have been coming from her nasal cavity, skin, GI, and eyes. She also said that she has Lyme disease and has been tested for numerous parasitic worms: Schistosoma, Taenia Solium, Toxocara canis, Strongyloides, and Ascariasis (she didn’t mention the results of the parasite tests.) She wants to know if we can help her identify the creatures in the photographs:
Although we can display the photographs she sent us and share her story, that is the limit of what we can do for our reader. Since we aren’t trained medical professionals, we aren’t licensed to give medical advice of any kind. We don’t feel comfortable guessing what kind of parasitic infection (if any) that our reader has. We encourage her to visit a doctor and bring samples of the specimens that have been coming from her body if possible. She should also make a list of any and all symptoms she has been experiencing that could be in relation to the presence of these organisms.
If she already went to the doctor and found it discouraging or unhelpful, she might want to consider making an appointment with a travel infectious disease specialist. These doctors are typically more familiar with diagnosing and treating unusual cases. To find a specialist she can do an Internet search for “travel infectious disease specialist [her location or nearest big city]”.
To wrap up, one of our readers has found worm-like organisms coming from several places in her body. We understand this is an unpleasant experience for her, but we can’t offer any advice since we aren’t qualified to weigh in on medical matters. We hope our reader finds answers and good health soon!
