Lint-like, White Matter Found by Woman Who May Need Medical Advice

“What are these?” is all this woman asks in her submission to us. She sends in multiple pictures, of which we have included only a few, of what appears to be white, lint- and hair-like matter all around what we assume to be her home.

The reason we left out some of our reader’s photos is because either they showed the same things we can see in the photos we did include, they were not clear in what they were trying to show us, or they showed our reader’s face (so we left them out to protect her privacy). Now, taking into account that one of the photos was of her face, as well as the fact that one of the photos (displayed below) is of our reader’s hair, this situation becomes potentially medical. We do assume this on the basis that reader has reported experiencing any symptoms or having health issues/concerns, but in any situation in which organisms are found in or on our readers’ bodies, we deem the situation medical. This is because, as we are not medical professionals, we cannot risk making an identification of such creatures, which might then be used as a diagnosis.

So, while we cannot identify the organisms, what we can do is suggest some places our reader can go to find a professional who can confidently identify and potentially treat these organisms. Normally, going to one’s doctor is the best way to go about any medical issue, but generally speaking, GPs and ER doctors do not receive training in parasitology, and it is a parasite specialist that one will want to consult when dealing with organisms affecting one’s health. For that reason, what we can recommend is that our reader do one or more of the following: 1) Search for a medical parasitologist in her area using this directory of medical parasitology consultants: https://www.astmh.org/for-astmh-members/clinical-consultants-directory. 2) Search for a local parasitologist by doing aGoogle search for “medical parasitologist (name of the closest big city)” or “tropical medicine specialist (name of the closest big city)”. 3) Get in touch with Dr. Omar Amin at theParasitology Center at https://www.parasitetesting.com. 4) Contact Dr. Vipul Savaliya of InfectiousDisease Care (“IDCare”) at idcarepa.com. We should also mention that the two physicians mentioned here are able to consult patients online, without need for in-person consultations!

To conclude, we cannot tell our reader what it is she asks us to identify, as her situation is potentially medical in nature. Nonetheless, we hope that this article proves helpful to our reader and that she gets the answers she wants sooner rather than later. We wish her the best!
