Although our site is called “All About Worms” we deal with a variety of different creatures that aren’t technically worms. Often, when people reach out to us about a specimen they have discovered in their home, it is actually larvae of a moth or fly. However, on occasion, our readers do in fact discover worms. Most often, these are earthworms, and so this is what we will focus on. This post will inform readers of the simple way to remove earthworms from their homes using natural and non-toxic methods.

Earthworms typically live in moist soil, but sometimes find their way into a house by accident, after a heavy rain, or by attaching to the shoe of a human. Since most houses are not moist enough to be an appealing home for earthworms, these earthworms are as eager to be put back outside, as you are to see them go. This means that to eradicate worms from your home you just need to simply place them back outside. However, to keep them from returning, there are some preventative measures you can take.

You can begin by making sure your home is properly sealed. Check vents, doors, and windows for airflow. Sealing any cracks will eliminate entrance sources for these worms. If you are discovering earthworms in the toilet, this might mean there is a crack in the plumbing that earthworms are getting into the pipes through. Consider reaching out to a plumber to investigate. Finally, if your home is particularly humid, entertain the idea of installing a dehumidifier to eliminate excess moisture.

In summary, when readers discover “worms” in their home, they have often actually found a type of larvae or millipedes. However, sometimes they do find earthworms wiggling around inside. This post explains what to do if that happens.
