Extreme Dust Seemingly Spawns Plethora of Organisms in this Woman’s Home

“I have been living with extreme dust in a newly constructed complex”, writes this reader in her submission to us. She includes a plethora of images, three of which we have selected and included below. They seem to show pieces of matter and potential organisms of all shapes and sizes, ranging from white, translucent larvae-like organisms to a dark-colored beetle of some sort. “Last year they said I had carpet beetles, then case bearing moths, but things just keep getting worse and they are insisting that I have no pests and are imagining everything. I have spent so much money and time on this. My apartment is spotless and clean.”

Now, as our reader does not ask any questions in her submission, we do not know exactly what it is she wants us to identify or explore here. Nonetheless, we will provide a brief opinion on her situation. Firstly, we cannot identify what it is our reader is dealing with, and this is entirely due to the sheer number of various objects/organisms our reader has photographed. Obviously, the beetle is a beetle, though what species we do not know. Hence, it is possible that some of the larvae-like organisms are the larvae of the beetle, but given that our reader has also dealt with a bunch of other pests, this is not 100% certain.

Since she has extreme dust, we recommend she vacuum her home regularly, as that is really the only way to combat that situation. This will also eliminate any eggs and larvae that will be roaming around in that dust. Additionally, we do not know who has been giving her the advice on what types of pests she has been dealing with, but perhaps it might be a good idea to contact a different professional to identify and treat the problem (if she cannot do it herself)? Likewise, if she wants to know what each individual organism is, we suggest she box up any of the objects she thinks might be organisms (make sure there are air holes in the box) and take them to her local county extension office. There, someone will be able to physically examine the creatures and will have a better chance at identifying them.

In conclusion, we do not know what our reader is dealing with, nor do we know exactly why she contacted us. Nonetheless, we hope that something we wrote proves to be of value. We wish her the very best!

  1. I’m sorry you are going through all of this. I know exactly how frustrated you feel and have been dealing with the same thing for almost 2 years. It’s a nightmare! All I do is clean, throw stuff out, research hoping to find answers and doctors appointments . I thought I had clothes moths and or carpet beetles but every pest control person said I didn’t. I had holes in my cotton shirts and these white small over them. Like tiny white strips of something. I also have the same debris all over my floors and fabric furnishings. Let me reassure you it’s not all in your head! Just because pest control professionals can’t recognize what this stuff is it doesn’t mean it’s nothing. I was wondering if you have any skin issues and or issues with your scalp? Some of that stuff in your picture looks like sebum plugs that have fallen? out of your hair from your scalp and possibly from other places like your arms, face and torso. I have severely dry sensitive skin and sebum plugs come from my scalp, face and forearms.
They are waxy, sometimes puffy and slightly moist but get hard when they dry up. Please Google sebum plugs and sebaceous glands and look at the “images” of these as well.
