We recently received a picture taken by a reader via our Facebook page. She said that the item in the photo appeared after she flushed the toilet. She thinks it might be some sort of plant or a worm. The sudden appearance of this freaked her out, and she wonders what it might be.
We have included the photo in this post so that all of our readers can get a good look at it, but we will also describe it as follows. It appears to be several inches long and relatively thin. On one end there is a yellow bulb, and then a translucent stem that becomes several brown thread-like tails. We aren’t exactly sure what this is, but we are fairly certain it is not a worm.

The fact that she saw this after flushing leads us to believe that this came from the pipes and sewer system that connect to the toilet. We think this is probably some sort of root from a plant. We aren’t sure how this ended up in our reader’s toilet. We recommend she remove and discard the item. If this happens again, there could be a problem with the pipes. If that’s the case, she can contact a professional to speculate on the situation.
In conclusion, a reader sent us some photos of something that appeared in her toilet and freaked her out. We believe this is a plant or root of some kind, and don’t think it is a cause for concern.
