Black Wiggling Worms In Toilet Likely Drain Fly Larvae

We recently heard from a very concerned reader. She explained that she used an old toilet at her work, looked down, and was shocked to see a few short black¬†worms in the toilet. Although the toilet hasn’t been cleaned for while since it is in an old warehouse, she still felt a little alarmed at the thought that these creatures might have come from her own body. Based on some previous articles and photos on our site, she thinks they could be drain fly larvae, but she wants our¬†opinion about the specimens. She wrote, “Now I’m having weird little pains in my bladder but I think they may be psychosomatic. Help!”

In this first photograph, we can clearly see the tiny black worm-like organisms in our reader’s toilet. There seem to be 4-6 creatures total. We agree with our reader that these are drain fly larvae, but we will take a closer look to be sure:

These are definitely drain fly larvae! Drain fly larvae are tiny worm-like organisms that feed on the organic matter that builds up in a drain or pipe that hasn’t been cleaned in a while. It makes perfect sense that our reader noticed these in a toilet in an old warehouse, especially since she explicitly explained that the toilet hadn’t been cleaned for a while. Cleaning out this toilet and the grime that has collected in the drain and surrounding pipe will easily get rid of these larvae. Since this isn’t the toilet in our reader’s home, we don’t know if she is invested in cleaning it, but there is that option if she doesn’t want to see the larvae anymore. If she is going to clean it, we recommend Bio Drain gel or Bio Clean powder.

To wrap up, we believe the black worms our reader noticed in the toilet at her work are drain fly larvae and did not come out of her body. Since she did mention having symptoms, even if she thinks they are psychosomatic, we encourage her to see a doctor if she is truly worried about her health or thinks that these might be parasitic specimens. We are not doctors and are therefore unable to give medical advice!
