A Battle with Mold and Parasites has This Reader Examining Carpet Beetle Larvae Under a Microscope

This reader shares “microscopic pictures” of “carpet beetle larvae that came out of the skin of [her] foot.” In addition to this, she suffers from a parasitic infection from living with “multiple types of mold.”

She adds that she was not aware of these molds at first, and that she lives in a “poorly managed, maintained and constructed building.”

ATTENTION: GET PARASITE HELP NOW! At All About Worms we get a lot of questions about skin parasites, blood parasites, and intestinal parasites in humans. Because we can't diagnose you, we have put together this list of doctors and labs who understand and specialize in dealing with parasites in humans! That resource is HERE

Now, there are a couple of things we should note here. Firstly, these pictures are incredible, and we thank our reader for them. Secondly, we are curious if these pictures were really taken under a microscope, because carpet beetle larvae are not microscopic and can be seen with the naked eye. That said, they really do look like carpet beetle larvae, so we suppose our reader did not zoom in that far. Thirdly, carpet beetle larvae are not parasitic and have not been known to live inside people’s feet. Their diet consists of organic- and animal-based materials, but they do not feed directly on living beings. Of course, this brings us to our fourth point, that we will unfortunately not be able to confirm or deny this identification, nor will we be able to provide any alternative answers.

The reason for this is because we are not medical professionals. As such, we are not qualified to identify parasites, or give advice on how to deal with such a situation, as doing so would be to give medical advice. What we can do is refer our reader to some resources she can utilize to find a professional who is qualified to diagnose and treat such an infection. In particular, we suggest that our reader consult a medical parasitologist, which is a physician who specializes in parasitic infections.

Hence, what we can recommend is that our reader do one or more of the following:
1) Search for a medical parasitologist in her area using this directory of medical parasitology consultants: https://www.astmh.org/for-astmh-members/clinical-consultants-directory.
2) Search for a local parasitologist by doing a Google search for “medical parasitologist (name of the closest big city)” or “tropical medicine specialist (name of the closest big city)”.
3) Get in touch with Dr. Omar Amin at the Parasitology Center at https://www.parasitetesting.com.
4) Contact Dr. Vipul Savaliya of Infectious Disease Care (“IDCare”) at idcarepa.com.

When it comes to the mold in her home, we also suggest that she contact a professional to deal with that, as mold can be dangerous to live with.

To conclude, we hope that the resources listed above come to use, and that our reader is able to find help as soon as possible. Whoever she comes into contact with to diagnose her infection, we suggest that our reader show them the same photos she showed us, and tell them as many details about her situation as possible, as that can greatly help a physician narrow down the possibilities of what is ailing her. We wish her the best!

  1. PICTURES COMING SOON! DECENT AMOUNT TO REVIEW, MICROSCOPIC AND OTHERWISE! Thank God I found other people going through same or similar.

  2. SO MANY OF THESE MATCH UP TO WHAT IVE BEEN GOING THROUGH FOR MONTHS :'{ AND MY ONE YEAR OLD HAS JUST THE INTESTINAL WORMS. THANK GOD NOT THE NON HUMAN PARASITES FROM THE MOLDY/MUSTY CARPET. WE HAVE MICE IN THE HOUSE. I HAVE A MICROSCOPE SHOWING MULTIPLE INSECTS LIVING ON MY FEET….THAT SHOULDNT BE. THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO BE IDENTIFIED IN A HOSPITAL LABORATORY AND TOLD ME TO SEND IT TO THE CDC…..I ONLY SEE A LONG LIST OF THINGS I SUSPECT COULD BE WRONG WITH ME….UNAVAILABLE AT THIS TIME FOR TESTING/IDENTIFICATION AND NO ONE CALLS BACK. LITERALLY SWEAR THESE ARE HORSEHAIR WORMS BUT THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THEY ARE VERY SKINNY, AND THEY WRAP UP IN A CIRCULAR TYPE BALL SHAPE. I HAVE VERY LONG SIMILARLY COLORED HAIR SO AT FIRST I JUST THOUGHT MY HAIR WAS FALLING OUT. THE CREEPIEST THING, THEY ARE EVEN ON MY HEAD, THATS THE MAIN PLACE THEY GO ON MY BODY, AT LEAST THE FULL GROWN ONES, BESIDES ALL OVER THE BATHROOM. THEY BASICALLY STAY CONFINED WHERE THERE IS THAT WATER SOURCE….JUST LIKE THE HORSEHAIR WORM. I SWEAR THEY ARE LIKE HUMAN VERSIONS SINCE HORSEHAIR ARENT SUPPOSE TO INFEST HUMANS, JUST INSECTS. BUT – PARASITES CAN PRESENT DIFFERENTLY AND MORPH DIFFERENTLY IN DIFFERENT HOSTS. ALL I CAN DO IS SPECULATE. ALL OF THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS – NOT EVEN THE BUGS ON MY FEET OR THE MICROSCOPIC WORMS THROUGHOUT MY BODY….BUT THE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE HELL ALL OF THIS IS. I AM IMMUNOCOMPROMISED, WENT TO A BEACH WITH SWIMMERS ITCH PRESENT (UNKNOWINGLY) HAD A WIDE OPEN, DEEP WOUND ON MY BIG TOE. THATS WHERE EVERYTHING BEGAN…AND THE BABY AND I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH SYMPTOMS SINCE THE FIRST WEEK OF JUNE. IVE BEEN PUT ON A MENTAL FLOOR – IVE BEEN TOLD IM PSYCHOTIC, THEN IVE BEEN TOLD BY MY OWN DOCTORS, THIS IS NOT MENTAL ITS DEFINITLY PHYSICAL. DCFS JUST TOOK MY CHILD BECAUSE THEY SAY SOMEHOW TRYING TO WORK WITH THE DOCTORS IS ABUSE TO THE CHILD EVEN THO THEY HAVE ONLY TAKEN STOOL SAMPLES FROM HER DIAPER….WHAT IN THE HELL!?? THE LAWYER SAYS NOT TO WORRY…WE WILL GET HER BACK ON THE 15TH OF OCTOBER….THAT MEANS I WENT WITHOUT MY BABY FOR SIX FREAKING WEEKS. BECAUSE OF THIS. ITS LITERALLY RUINING MY LIFE. MY FRIENDS ARE SCARED TO GET IT, AND I DONT BLAME THEM. IM SO DEPRESSED. I HONESTLY AM NOT ANXIOUS ABOUT THEM ANYMORE, AND THEY GET BETTER FOR A COUPLE//FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE SKIN LESIONS START AGAIN. SORRY SO MUCH….ITS SO FREAKING COMPLICATED. I HAVE A MICROSCOPE, I KNOW ITS NOT IN MY HEAD. IVERMECTIN AND THAT SKIN CREAM FOR SCABIES HAVE DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I CANT GET A STOOL SAMPLE TO COME UP POSITIVE EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN SEE THE WORMS IM PUTTING IN THE CONTAINER. NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE.
